Peepo Deployment

The Peepo server has been designed to be nimble - it's configuration is straightforward and almost every parameter can be changed while it's running. All configuration is in the form of simple property files and new channels can be defined by just creating new files in its channels configuration directory. Its integration with Apache is at the file-system level making it compatible with a large number of existing logging procedures.

The diagram below is intended to highlight pictorially the different basic topologies that Peepo supports.

Peepo's basic design (Apache log events via UDP) is especially useful in situations where one needs to monitor clustered Apache servers. Depending on what one is seeking to analyze:

• Channel names can be assigned on a per-website basis with the channel names being applied consistently across each server in the cluster. This is useful if traffic is being compared between websites.
• Channel names can be assigned on a per-server basis with every website hosted on a server reporting its events on the same channel. This is useful if traffic is being compared between different servers in the cluster.
• Channel names can be assigned in an entirely unique manner across all sites and servers. Filters can then be used to combine various channels for analysis purposes.
